IT'S EASY TO MISS WHAT YOU'RE NOT LOOKING FOR
(OR THOSE THINGS YOU DON'T REALLY WANT TO SEE)

Sometimes that missing piece of the puzzle is right before our eyes! For whatever reason, we just can't see it ... and THAT can cause problems.

Role-modeling has always been an important aspect of Recovery, and the Coming Clean Today discussion board is loaded with positive role models. Individuals who don't simply talk-the-talk, but actually walk-the-walk, and work as hard as they can to practice what they preach and do the right thing, consistently.

Active addicts and alcoholics are famous for having all of the answers. Be it insecurities, low self esteem, the feeling that they need to impress others, or simply a long standing penchant for telling some whoppers. Regardless of the underlying origins and root causes ... this trait is sometimes referred to as selling big tickets.

Given that the Recovery process is a long-term journey, many individuals early in recovery (and some not so early) lack the insight to recognize that their shtick is often quite transparent to others ... and ultimately such individuals stand as somewhat of an embarrassment before those who are compelled to listen to their pathological certainty on any and all subjects.

So ... for those individuals who are still selling big tickets ... how about selling them here on Coming Clean Today? If you know your stuff, then you'll be able to assist others in their efforts to continue their positive, substance-free life style. If you are sincere with your recovery efforts, then your participation on this discussion board will likely be met with honest, supportive assistance and guidance, exciting new personal understanding ... and ultimately enhanced emotional development.

And if you are still one of the ones who are selling big tickets ... you'll likely get your clock cleaned. But hey, that's one of the best ways to learn, right or wrong?

CALVIN KNOWS THE DEAL

Calvin J. writes a nice testimonial about his personal experience on the Coming Clean Today addiction recovery online therapeutic discussion board.

"You know, when I was in rehab and they would ask some of the guys what they were going to do with their free time when they got out, a lot of them said ... go bowling. Everyone laughed and figured there was no way those guys would ever do that. Now look at me ... Tuesday night leagues and a 210 average to boot!"

"Well, I finished my program, I started going to meetings on the outside, and even got a little private therapy too. I've been clean now for 16 months and am very proud of that. I drank hard for about 15 years. Actually quit smoking too, a couple of months ago"

Oh, and by the way ... I spend a lot of time on the Coming Clean Today discussion board. I've learned a lot about myself that way. Lots of things that were never touched on in rehab, or in my meetings, or with my sponsor. Go figure ..."

"But it's all good.... best free time I've ever spent ... other than bowling"

Let's take a look, for a moment, at what TAKING RISKS IN RECOVERY is all about.

Clearly, spending time with people that are using alcohol or other drugs is a risk ... but that's not what we are referring to here. That situation can be deemed outright foolish rather than simply calling it a risk.

What we are referring to here on
Coming Clean Today when we refer to taking risks is one's ability in Recovery to place themselves in different (positive) positions that are new, challenging ... and oftentimes quite uncomfortable ... contributing directly to one's overall efforts and plan to identify those aspects within themselves that they would like to explore, further understand, and better develop.

You know ... it's all there. You just have dig deep in order to identify the fears, insecurities, and historical issues that contributed to that past history of substance-use ... and then dig a little deeper in an effort to overcome those factors ... as you work to (re)build the kind of life that you want.

Your active participation on the Coming Clean Today discussion board can greatly assist you in finding the right answers. We've got buried treasure right here ... and it's just waiting for you.

So taking the risk of being honest about yourself ... within the framework of some really targeted Recovery topics ... while facing the positive feedback and constructive support that you will likely receive in return ... that's the risk that we are referring to here. And what have you got to lose? ThoughtWheel believes that the risk/reward to your recovery and long-term sobriety is much greater than the uncomfortable feelings of having to deal with the in-your-face truths that you'll experience on this discussion board. Consider the alternatives, and remember the old adage ... "Only a fool is sure".
